Kedarnath temple is all set to open on May 10, 2024, on the occasion of Akshay Triytiya. The official announcement of the opening date of Kedarnath temple was made by the head priest of Ukhimath on March 8, 2024, on the occasion of Mahashivratri. The doli of Lord Kedar will depart from the Ukhimath temple on May 6 and reach the Kedarnath temple, taking multiple halts at Guptkashi, Phata, and Gaurikud. The doli will finally reach Kedarnath on May 9, 2024.

As per Badrianth Kedarnath temple commitee President Ajendra Ajay, this year also a huge spike in the number of devotees is expected. He assured that the committee is working round the clock with other government organizations to create better facilities for the pilgrims.

30- ITBP Personal have been deployed to guard Kedarnath

Kedarnath is one of the most famous pilgrimages in India, located at an altitude of 3583 meters above sea level in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand. Every year millions of people do Kedarnath Yatra to seek the blessing of lord shiva and relieve themselves from their sins. Kedarnath temple remains open for almost six months a year and this year it has been closed on 27 October 2022. After the closing of the temple, no one is allowed to remain in the premise of Kedarnath temple as the temperature here falls below -15 degrees Celcius. Gold plating has been done on the walls, ceilings, and four pillars of the temple. Even though priests opposed it temple committee completed the process on the 26th of October. A total of 560 sheets of gold weighing around 40 kg has been used to complete this process. All these golds have been donated by the 'LAKA" family of Maharashtra. After the closure of the temple, all the locals shifted to lower altitudes and the temple get covered by snow for about 5 to 6 feet. On the request of Sri Badrinath and Kedarnath Temple Committee Chairman Ajendra Ajay, Uttarakhand Chief Secretary SS Sandhu has issued an order appointing the ITBP team for temple protection duties.

After the closure of the temple on 27 th October, the central government approved their request and appointed 30 personnel to guard this area even during winter. They started their day on Tuesday with a turn of two at a time to guard Kedareshwar.
