The History of Gartang Gali

Gartang Gali has been in existence since the 17th century, when the Peshawari Pathans built this wooden architectural feature. During that time, it was a strategic commercial center connecting India and Tibet. People could move goods across this bridge even though it was built over a dangerous part of the river.

In due course, the construction deteriorated, and for many years the bridge was closed to the public. But in the year 2021, the Uttarakhand government revived the bridge , and again it is operational for trekking purposes. Today, it is a landmark for people and a sign of the confluence of history in people’s hands, and a fun ride for people in the present times.
