Strength training tips

Triund trek is most famous as an easy trek but the trekking to Laka glacier which is just 4 km away from Triund top is much more challenging in comparison to the Triund trek. Once you will start moving ahead of the Triund top you will start realising that the gradient here is quite stiff than the Triund top trek gradient. So one can do the Triund trek easily and without any prior preparation but if you are planning for a trek to Laka glacier via Triund top then we will recommend you to start preparing for the trek at least 15 days before the scheduled date of your trekking. I am providing some tips to prepare before the trek so that you can complete this trek easily and can enjoy it to your fullest.

During trekking, we use to walk for a long distance and altitude varies with every new step. So the common exercise which you have to d0 before coming to this trek is brisk walking. Set a target of 5-6 km and try to achieve it in 15 days.
I am recommending some other common exercises which you can do to make your lower and upper body tougher.

Lower body strength training

During trekking, our lower body has to do the maximum work so training it before coming to trek is one of the most important tasks. For that, I am suggesting some exercise which you have to do for 45 seconds each with 15 seconds rest. Start with one set each and increase it to 3 sets daily.

Squats

Keep your upper body stiff and your hand either behind your head or stretch it straight in front of you at the shoulder lever. Now sit down without moving making any movement in the upper body and go up. Go slow and do it for 45 seconds. This will strengthen your quadriceps, calves, and hamstrings and will improve your flexibility to the lower body.

One leg lean squats

Now again keep your upper body and right leg stiff and sit on the left leg without making any movement to your upper body. Now go up and keep your left leg stiff and sit on your right leg. Go slow and keep repeating this for the next 45 seconds.

Lunges

Keep your hands down, and upper body straight. Put your right leg forward and drop your body down without making any movement to your upper body and bending your knees. Do it 15 times and then switch your legs and again repeat it for the next 15 times. Lunges increase muscle mass to build up strength and tone your body, especially your core, butt, and legs.

Upper body strength training

As you have to carry your luggage on your own so it is equally important to train your upper body before coming to the trek of Laka Glacier. I am recommending some of the upper body exercises.

Pushups:- Try to do at least 5-7 pushups with three reputations daily. This will help you to strengthen your arms and shoulders and will prepare your shoulder and arms to carry weight.

Plank for at least 30 seconds:- Lie straight with your face toward the ground, now hold your body on your forearms and feet keeping your complete body straight. Try to hold in this position for at least 30 seconds. This will help you burn your belly fat and will strengthen your chest and shoulder.

Tricep Dip:- Sit down on your hip with legs straight touching the ground. Keep your hands 1feet behind your hip and try to lift your body. Keep doing it for 45 seconds. This exercise is to strengthen the upper body and increase the range of motion of the body.

Some pro tips

Do at least 10 minutes of warmup and stretching before and after exercising. And don’t sit or keep your body idle during the resting period. Keep moving your body this will keep your body warm and active and will also decrease the chance of cramping.

Laka Glacier Trek Faq

No, the trekking to the Laka glacier is not difficult. In fact, it's a very beginner-friendly trek. This trek falls under the difficulty level of easy-to-moderate. The total trekking distance is 26 km, which we are going to cover in a time span of 3 days and 2 nights. The maximum altitude of the Snowline trek is 10,500 feet (3,200 meters), which is an average height to trek at.

Laka Glacier lies in the lap of Kangra valley and is blessed with the most beautiful scenic beauty to cherish for a lifetime. All the seasons have their own flavor, and you will get the motherly feel from this serene atmosphere. With birds chirping around and the wide diversity of plants hugging you is the best feeling to get on this trek during summers.
The scenario completely changes in the winters with the snow all around, but one thing that remains constant is the sunrise and sunset behind the mighty Dhauladhar ranges that is a memory to capture and withhold for lifelong.

Yes, definitely you will get to see snow all around you till the end of February as in January the snowfall is maximum, and the temperature starts to rise from the end of February that will melt the snow, but before that, you will get to witness a thick blanket of snow covered all around Snowline Trek. Not only on the topmost point, but you will start to see snow from Triund itself, and from there, for a 4km walk, you will literally walk on snow during the winter season.

While on your Snowline trek, you will be provided with toilet tents that are waterproof. There will be 2- 4 tents depending on the size of the group. The toilet tents will have a deep pit for your nature calls. You will also have a mound of soil and a shovel to cover it up. This is the most hygienic waste management system in the mountains. Also, toilet paper will be provided during the camping.

Yes, the Snowline or Triund Laka glacier trek is completely safe for solo trekkers. It is one of the most famous winter treks in Himachal Pradesh, so thousands of trekkers trek on this route on a daily basis. In addition to that, here at Manchala Mushafir, we put the utmost importance on safety, especially for solo girls coming on this beautiful trek.

The best time to visit Snowline also known as the Triund Laka Glacier trek is in the month of September to May. At this time sky is clear and the weather is pleasant. In the month of December and January Snowline receives maximum snowfall. The best time to visit Snowline, also known as the trekking to Laka glacier via Triund, is from September to May. The full round trip covers 26 km over 3 days: 9 km on Day 1 (McLeodganj to Triund), 8 km on Day 2 (Triund to Laka Glacier and back), and 9 km on Day 3 (Triund back to McLeodganj).

We have reached Guptkashi, Mushafir resort on 16.05.2024 around 03.00 A.M as there were huge rush and traffic on roads but the management has taken care of all the things very well. "I would like to sincerely thank Team Manchala Mushafir (Especially Hema) for well-co-ordinated Char Dham Tour in May 2026 (14th May - 22 May) for our 20 people team: • Travel Arrangements: The logistics were seamless, from transport to accommodation. Timely pickups and comfortable stays made all of us stress-free. You promised us accommodation within 100 meters of the Kedarnath Temple, and you made it happen. Driver (Vishal) was exceptionally calm and composed gentleman, whose humility and kindness made a lasting impression on us. He deserves special recognition. • Guidance & Support: The local guide (Jagdish) was very supportive, and helped us through out the Journey. He even took care of elderly people at every stage. We felt well looked after. • Overall Experience: The trip was memorable, spiritually enriching, and well-executed. It exceeded our expectations and allowed us to focus fully on the pilgrimage without worrying about arrangements. The experience will stay with us forever, both in spirit and in memory. I appreciate dedication of Your entire Team and would be happy to recommend your services to others planning a similar journey. Looking forward to engaging with you again for future travels. Thank You !!!"

"🌟 Chopta–Tungnath Trek with Manchala Mushafir – A Memorable Experience! We recently did the Chopta–Tungnath trek with Manchala Mushafir, and it was nothing short of amazing! From the moment our journey started, everything was well-organized and perfectly managed. 🏔️ Chopta, known as the ‘Mini Switzerland of India’, truly lived up to the name — serene, scenic, and peaceful. The trek to Tungnath, the highest Shiva temple in the world, was a bit challenging but totally worth it. The view from Chandrashila top was surreal — 360-degree Himalayan ranges covered in snow. Breathtaking! 🏕️ Our stay in Chopta was in proper cottages with clean rooms, hot water, and good food – a rare find at such heights. The local guide provided by Manchala Mushafir was experienced, friendly, and kept the group motivated throughout the trek What stood out the most was the personal touch from the Manchala Mushafir team – they weren’t just organizers, they felt like co-travelers who genuinely cared. 💯 Highly recommended for anyone looking to explore Uttarakhand's beauty in comfort and good company. Trust me, this trip is going to stay in your heart for a long time!"
