How To Reach Mc-Leodganj?

By Road

Dharamshala is well connected by road with some of the major cities like Delhi, Jalandhar, Shimla, Amritsar Chandigarh. You can take an overnight bus from any of the above-mentioned cities to reach Dharamshala early in the morning. You can check the availability of buses from your nearest bus stand by visiting on online bus booking platform Redbus. Mc-Leodganj is approximately 5 km from Dharamshala. For reaching Mc-Leodganj you can hire local cabs.

By Air

Gaggal Airport which is about 15km away from the city centre is the main domestic airport serving Dharamshala. Travellers can take a taxi or bus from outside the airport to reach Dharamshala or Mc-Leodganj directly. But most of the time we don’t get a flight directly from our hometown to Gaggal airport so we can also book our flight up to Delhi and then continue our remaining journey by bus. From New Delhi, you will get a variety of buses ranging from the most luxury fully sleeper ac buses to Himachal and Delhi government-operated buses. You can book any of these buses at your convenience. We recommend our customers to make advance booking to avoid last hour rush or surcharges. You can book your flight either by directly visiting the individual company’s website or you can check it directly on Goibibo.

By Train

The nearest railway station to Mc-Leodganj is Pathankot which is about 92kms from Mcleodganj and is well connected by road. You will get frequent buses or taxis on this route. Or you can directly reach Delhi by train and then cover your rest journey by bus. In Delhi, you will get a bus from the Kashmiri gate bus stand, or Vishvidayalaya Metro station. To avoid the rush or any surcharge during peak season we recommend our customer to make advance booking. You can book your train directly from IRCTC and bus from Redbus and Goibibo.

  • Strictly follow the guide’s instructions. Laka Glacier is an easy trek but it’s a mountain. Never take it for granted. There is one famous saying in mountains ” Don’t be Gama in the land of Lama”. Don’t forget to ask its meaning from your guide.
  • Carry some dry fruits such as groundnuts, channa, cashews and energy bars, Chocolates to maintain your energy level during your trek.
  • Take regular pauses during your trek. Don’t haste, you may get tired.
  • Please carry one carry bag with you and bring some garbage from the path of the Laka Glacier trek. It’s our moral responsibility to keep it clean and beautiful.
  • Carry your water bottle with you and keep refilling to maintain your water stock throughout your Laka Glacier Trekking and keep yourself hydrated.
  • Please carry your Photo Identity card and keep it at your reach. Produce it whenever asked. Co-operate with security staff during security checks and strictly follow their instructions.

Day 1-Dharamkot To Triund

Dharamkot to Triund (8 km)
As the Triund and Snowline Trek begins from Dharamkot, it takes you through a lush forest. The refreshing scents of various trees will be a feast for your senses. As you hike uphill, you will get panoramic views of the Himachali landscape. High mountain peaks, topped with snow, and shining under sunlight, will be a treat for your eyes. You can elongate the 5-hour trek and admire nature at your own pace as your move towards your destination.
On reaching Triund Hill, you will witness one of the best sunsets ever. Remember to capture this amazing sight in your cameras. Pose with your companions against the backdrop of the setting sun; this will make perfect memorabilia of the sojourn. The sights from here are one of the highlights of the Triund and Snowline Trek in McLeodganj. Here, light a campfire, and spend the night under the canopy of stars.

Day 2-Triund to Laka

Triund to Laka Got (6 km)
Open your eyes to a mesmerising sunrise, and breathe in the fresh air of the mountains; later, begin your journey to Laka Got. At this point of the Triund Trek in McLeodganj, you will get to experience snow as Laka Got is actually a glacier! Make a giant snowman or throw snowballs at your loved ones. This, of course, calls for another photo session with friends or family, playing with the snow. After having fun, enjoy an overnight stay amidst nature in Laka Got.

Day 3- Laka to Dharamkot

Laka Got to Dharamkot (14 km)
Beginning early in the morning, start trekking downhill and reach Dharamkot. This is where this experience of trekking near Dharamsala ends.

Snowline trek is around a 24 km trek from both sides.
Best time to visit snowline?
The months of February to December have the best weather condition to trek to the snowline. The sky is crystal clear and the weather is pleasantly cold.
Is there snow on Snowline trek?
Yes, there is snow on the Snowline trek during winter.
What are toilet/washroom facilities on the Snowline Trek Package?
While on your Snowline trek, you will be provided with toilet tents that are waterproof. There will be 2- 4 tents depending on the size of the group. The toilet tents will have a deep pit for your nature calls. You will also have a mound of soil and a shovel to cover it up. This is the most hygienic waste management system in the mountains. Also, toilet paper will be provided during the camping.
Which type of shoes should I carry on the trek to snowline?
You must carry good trekking shoes that are flexible, water-resistant and have ankle support.
Is snowline trek safe for solo trekkers?
Snowline trek is quite a popular trek among trekkers so there is lot of trekkers taking this trek simultaneously. Moreover, our trekker’s safety is the top priority at Manchala Mushafir. Snowline trek is completely safe for girl’s trekkers and solo trekkers as well.
