When is the best time to visit Chopta?

In the winter, though, the temperature drops to zero degrees, and the entire area is blanketed in snow.

Summer

During the summer, Chopta's temperature ranges from 15°C to 24°C. People may enjoy trekking and camping in the summer because of the mild weather and moderate temperatures.

Tungnath Temple

Tungnath is a prominent tourist spot in Uttarakhand, India. It is a popular Hindu pilgrimage site and is home to one of the world's tallest Shiva temples, located at a height of 3680 meters. The Tungnath temple holds a significant position as one of the Panch Kedars, adding to its importance and reverence. The area around Tungnath is noted for its stunning natural beauty, making it a popular hiking destination as well. The trek of moderate difficulty level, with  Chopta to Tungnath distance  is just 3.5 kilometers (2.5 miles).

Chandrashila

Beyond  Tungnath , there is a further trek of approximately 1.5 kilometres (0.9 miles) that leads to Chandrashila Peak. Standing at an altitude of about 4,000 meters (13,000 feet), Chandrashila offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Himalayan range. The destination presents a mesmerising panorama of the majestic Himalayan peaks, including Nanda Devi, Trishul, Bandarpunch, and Chaukhamba, leaving visitors awe-inspired by their grandeur.

Deoria Tal

Deoriatal lies on the Ukhimath-Chopta highway. It is a high-altitude lake that can only be reached by a 3-kilometre uphill climb from the settlements of Mastura and Sari. Camping here is an unforgettable experience.

Ukhimath

Ukhimath is a small town located about 30 kilometers (18.6 miles) from Chopta. It is home to the winter seat of Lord Kedarnath and serves as a pilgrimage site during the winter months when the  Kedarnath Temple  remains closed.

Kanchula Korak Musk Deer Sanctuary

It covers an area of 5 square kilometres and is ideal for exploring the rich flora and Musk deer species. It is still an out-of-the-way spot, and only locals can help you get there.

Trekking

With its fascinating Chopta Tungnath Trek, Chopta provides an excellent trekking choice. A trip to Deoriatal, which is near this lovely spot, is highly recommended.

How do I go to Chopta?

By road, Chopta is well connected to destinations like Rishikesh, Gopeshwar, and Haridwar. In actuality, the easiest way to go to Chopta is to first travel to Dehradun or Haridwar, then take a bus or cab to Chopta.

By Air

The nearest airport to Chopta is located 221 kilometres away in the city of Dehradun, where Jolly Grant Airport is located. You may then take a bus or taxi to Chopta.

By Rail

Rishikesh and Haridwar have the nearest railway stations. Haridwar railway station, located around 186 kilometres from Chopta, is the better-connected of the two. To go to the location, one can use buses or taxis from Haridwar.

By Road

Chopta is accessible by road from Haridwar, Dehradun, Srinagar, and Rishikesh. From these locations, there are state-run buses and excellent cab service.
