  • Story of lord Shiva's appearance to Sage Narad: The name “Rudraprayag” derives from Rudra (another name of lord shiva). According to Hindu mythology, sage Narad Muni paid deep penance at this sacred spot to master the art of music through the blessings of lord shiva. Lord Shiva, deeply affected by his devotion, appeared in his Rudra form and blessed Narad Muni with mastery over music.

By Road: Rudraprayag has great road connectivity with major cities like Haridwar, Rishikesh, and Dehradun, so you can reach there by road. Firstly,  you need to travel to any of these cities from your hometown. Then take another transport to reach Rudrapayag.  Buses or taxis are easily available for the Rudraprayag district from the main cities of Uttarakhand.

By Air: One of the fastest and most convenient modes of travel. Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun is the nearest airport to Rudraprayag. It is located at a distance of 152 Kms. You can take a flight from your respective destination to Dehradun, and from the airport, take a taxi or bus to Rudraprayag. 

In some cases, you may not get a direct flight to Dehradun, or the ticket price may be very high, as this airport is very small with limited daily flights. In that case, you can take a connecting flight from Indira Gandhi International Airport, Ne

  • Kedarnath Temple: A sacred pilgrimage site of lord Shiva, located 78 km from the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand and is an integral part of the 12 jyotirlingas of India. The temple is situated at an altitude of 11,755 feet above sea level on the banks of the Mandakini River and surrounded by snow-covered Himalayan peaks.   • Kartik Swami Temple: A temple of Lord Kartikey (Elder son of lord shiva), located at a distance of around 38 km from Rudrprayag, is the Kartik Swami Temple. It is accessible by a 3 km trek from Kanakchauri Village of Rudraprayag. The Trek offers 360-degree views of the peaks. 


  • Agastya Muni Temple: A significant site dedicated to Sage Agastya Muni, located a few kilometres away from the Rudraprayag district. Agastya Muni temple houses the Maharishi Agastya temple, Agasteshwar Mahadev temple, and sacred holy ponds.
