Introduction to Kedarnath Helicopter Ticket Fraud
Every year, thousands of devotees search for Kedarnath helicopter tickets to avoid the challenging 16–18 km trek from Gaurikund to Kedarnath Temple. Due to limited helicopter seats and extremely high demand, booking slots on the official portal sell out within minutes.
Taking advantage of this situation, cybercriminals have started operating fake websites, WhatsApp booking services, and fraudulent bank accounts that claim to offer confirmed helicopter tickets. Many pilgrims have already lost money in what is now widely known as the Kedarnath Helicopter Booking Scam.
It is important to understand that the only authorised platform for Kedarnath helicopter ticket booking is operated by Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) through the official website.
No private agent, third-party website, or travel company is authorised to issue helicopter tickets outside this portal.
In this guide, we will explain how the Kedarnath helicopter ticket fraud works, how to identify fake booking websites, real scam cases reported, and the exact steps you should take to protect yourself.
Kedarnath Helicopter Ticket Fraud – A Growing Cyber Scam
Due to extremely high demand and limited helicopter seats, online booking slots sell out within minutes. Taking advantage of this gap between demand and supply, cybercriminals have started operating fake websites, WhatsApp numbers, and social media pages claiming to provide confirmed helicopter tickets.
In recent years, several fraud cases have been reported where devotees lost thousands of rupees to fake booking portals and unauthorized agents. Even the Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) has blocked multiple fake websites and arrested fraudsters involved in helicopter ticket scams.
Scammers Typically:
- Create duplicate websites that look like the official IRCTC portal
- Share fake payment screenshots to gain trust
- Offer “VIP quota” or “one-side tickets” (which are usually fake claims)
- Ask for UPI or direct bank transfers
- Many devotees fall into this trap due to urgency and fear of missing out.
Before proceeding further, here are some major news reports highlighting real Kedarnath helicopter ticket fraud cases reported across India:

Sting Operation: How Kedarnath Helicopter Fraudsters Trap Pilgrims

Screenshot of messages the Kedarnath helicopter ticket fraud team uses to send
During this sting operation, we observed the following common tactics:
Step 1: Claim of Guaranteed Tickets:- They immediately promise confirmed tickets, even when no official booking is available.
Step 2: Fake Payment Proof:-They send edited payment screenshots to show that other devotees have already booked through them.
Step 3: Urgency Pressure:- They create panic by saying seats are limited and payment must be made immediately.
Step 4: Direct Bank / UPI Transfer:- They insist on transferring money to a personal savings account instead of a verified business account.
Step 5: Fake Confirmation Message:-After payment, they send a fake ticket or confirmation PDF that looks similar to the official one.
Important Observations From the Sting
During our investigation, we noticed:-
- They never provide GST details or proper invoice
- Bank accounts are often savings accounts, not verified business accounts
- Website domains look similar to the official IRCTC portal
- They promise guaranteed tickets even before official booking opens
It is important to remember that the only authorised portal for booking is operated by Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC). No agent can generate tickets outside the official website.

Important Banking Facts You Should Know
Many people believe that if they have the bank account details of a fraudster, the money can easily be traced later. However, online transfers — especially through UPI or direct bank transfer — can be completed using just the account number or UPI ID.
Fraudsters misuse this by:
- Sharing bank details in the name of a reputed helicopter operator
- Mentioning well-known locations like Phata, Sersi, or Guptkashi
- Providing misleading account names to gain trust
- Once money is transferred, recovery becomes difficult and time-sensitive.
Safety Reminder
- Never rely only on the account name shown on your app.
- Do not transfer money to unknown individuals outside the official booking portal.
- Always complete helicopter ticket booking through the official website of Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC).
- If you suspect fraud, immediately report it on the National Cyber Crime Portal (https://cybercrime.gov.in/) or dial 1930.
