How much money is required for Char Dham Yatra

Hey! I’m Poonam from Delhi. Last year, in May 2025, I completed my first-ever Char Dham Yatra with my family. While planning the journey, the biggest question on my mind was "how much money is required for Char Dham Yatra?", so I could plan a comfortable yet budget-friendly trip.

In this blog, I’ll break down all the major expenses, budget ranges, and cost factors involved in planning a smooth Char Dham Yatra, along with my personal experience to help you prepare better.

This detailed guide will help you understand the Char Dham Yatra expenses per person, whether you’re travelling on a budget or choosing a package.

About Char Dham

The Char Dham Yatra is a significant pilgrimage, which involves visiting four holy shrines: Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. This Himalyan Yatra holds immense spiritual significance and is believed to cleanse sins and grant salvation to devotees.

The Yatra follows a traditional clockwise route covering Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. Though physically demanding, the journey is spiritually rewarding and can be completed by road or helicopter.

Every year, thousands of devotees undertake this pilgrimage to seek the divine blessings and spiritual awakening. The most common question raised by many devotees is: “How much money is required for Char Dham Yatra?” Even while planning my first-ever pilgrimage, I was concerned about managing the total Char Dham travel budget effectively.

So, to address the most frequently asked question, I am here to explain it to you for a comfortable and smoother budget trip to Char Dham in Uttarakhand.

Best Time To Visit Char Dham

The best time to visit Char Dham is during the summer months, from May to June, and the autumn months, from September to October, as these months offer pleasant weather and the routes are accessible, ideal for pilgrimage and sightseeing.

Best Time To Travel

Summer season (May-June): Summer is considered the peak season for the Yatra. The weather is pleasant with temperatures ranging from 10°C to 25°C, and roads are clear, making it an ideal time for comfortable and safe pilgrimages. But it experiences a huge crowd, and accommodation prices may be higher, making it less suitable for budget travellers.

Autumn Season (September-June): Autumn is another good time to travel, experiencing comfortable weather, as monsoon rain has subsided, offering lush green excellent views. The temperature ranges from 8°C to 15°C. This period is highly recommended for those seeking a peaceful and comfortable journey on a budget, as accommodation and transportation prices are lower than in the summer months.

Time To Avoid

Monsoon season (July-August): The monsoon brings heavy rain, which significantly causes landslides and roadblocks, making trails slippery. Helicopter services are suspended due to poor weather, making travel risky.

Winter season (November-April): Temples are closed during this period, considered off-season for the Yatra, offering extremely harsh weather and heavy snowfall. Temperatures are dropping to low 0°C, and the entire region is covered with a heavy layer of snow.

Tip: If you're seeking a budget trip, prepare during the shoulder season, from September to October, as the accommodation and transportation costs are lower.
