Spiti Valley Tour Package Overview
Manchala Mushafir's Spiti Valley tour package is a 7 days / 6 nights group road trip from Delhi or Chandigarh that leaves every Saturday night by Volvo. It costs ₹19,999 per person from Delhi or ₹19,499 from Chandigarh (+5% GST) on triple sharing and covers the full circuit: Kinnaur's Chitkul and Kalpa, Spiti's Tabo, Dhankar, Kaza, Langza, Hikkim, Komic and Key Monastery, and Chandratal Lake in Lahaul, before returning via Manali. On the ground it is 7 days and 6 nights; door to door it is 8 calendar days, from Saturday night to the following Sunday morning.
Spiti is a high-altitude cold desert in northern Himachal Pradesh, with Buddhist monasteries and villages between about 3,300 m and 4,600 m. Going in through Kinnaur and out through Lahaul means you see both sides of it and sleep a little higher each night, which helps your body adjust before Kaza and Chandratal.
Best for: friend groups and solo travellers aged 21–45 who want the whole circuit on fixed Saturday dates, with travel, stays, meals and a trip captain arranged.

- Reach Chitkul, the last inhabited village on the Indo-Tibet border road, and check in to the campsite.
- A short briefing by the trip captain, then a home-cooked dinner and overnight stay.

Drive: about 165 km | Duration: 6–7 hours | Sightseeing: Nako Lake, Gue village and monastery | Stay: Hotel in Tabo | Meals: Breakfast and Dinner

- Stop at Nako village and Nako Lake.
- Visit Gue village and its monastery on the way.
- Reach Tabo, check in and rest after the long drive.

- Head over Kunzum Pass (4,551 m) towards Chandratal, with stops for tea and lunch.
- The last stretch to the lake is by local 4x4 vehicle (about ₹400 per person, paid locally).
- The camps are set back from the lake, as camping on the shore is not allowed; walk down to Chandratal for the evening light.
- Nights here are close to freezing even in July, so keep your heavy jacket and thermals at hand. Dinner and overnight in camp.
Day 7: Chandratal to Manali, overnight Volvo to Delhi
Drive: about 112 km via Batal, Gramphu and the Atal Tunnel | Duration: 5–6 hours | Meals: Breakfast
- Leave Chandratal early after breakfast. The stretch from Batal to Gramphu is the roughest road of the trip, a broken track with stream crossings, so it is slow going.

- Time for a break at the cafes of Old Manali.
- Board the Volvo from Manali at 8:00 PM to Chandigarh and Delhi, reaching the next morning.

Best Time for a Spiti Valley Tour
For this full circuit the season is short, because it depends on Kunzum Pass and Chandratal.
- Mid-June to September (our batches): Kunzum Pass and the Chandratal camps are open, skies are mostly clear and every village and monastery is reachable. Spiti is in the rain shadow, but Kinnaur and the Manali side can get landslides in July and August, so keep a buffer day.
- May and October: pleasant on the Shimla–Kinnaur–Kaza side, but Kunzum Pass and Chandratal are usually closed or risky.
- November to February (winter): Spiti gets heavy snow and night temperatures far below freezing, and only the Shimla–Kaza road stays open, so winter trips go to Kaza and back the same way; ask us for a winter Spiti trip.
Before You Book: Good to Know
- Altitude: you sleep at 3,450 m (Chitkul), 2,960 m (Kalpa), 3,280 m (Tabo), 3,800 m (Kaza, two nights) and about 4,300 m (Chandratal). Drink plenty of water, avoid alcohol and do not rush on the high days.
- Altitude sickness: watch for headache, nausea, dizziness, breathlessness at rest or poor sleep, and tell the trip captain at once. The standard response is rest, fluids, oxygen from the cylinder we carry and, if symptoms do not improve, going down to a lower altitude. Ask your doctor before the trip whether you should carry acetazolamide (Diamox).
- Health: if you have heart, lung or blood-pressure problems, check with your doctor before booking.
- Permits: no permit is needed for Indian citizens. Foreign nationals need a Protected Area Permit (often called an Inner Line Permit) for the Kinnaur–Spiti border stretch.
- Cash and network: carry enough cash, as ATMs are few (mainly Reckong Peo and Kaza) and digital payments may not work. Mobile network is patchy beyond Kaza and absent at Chandratal.
- Roads: check weather and road conditions before travel and add a buffer day to your plans if you can. If Kunzum Pass or the Chandratal road is closed, we return via Kinnaur and Shimla instead, with a hotel night in place of the Chandratal camp.
- Luggage: up to 30 kg per person; a soft bag is easier to load on the Tempo Traveller than a hard suitcase.
- ID: carry an Aadhaar card, passport or other government photo ID.
- Travel responsibly: follow local rules and advisories, and do not litter at the lakes and villages.
This Trip Is Not for You If…
- you are under 21 or over 45 (book a private trip instead)
- you have serious heart or lung problems, or a doctor has advised against high altitude
- you have limited mobility; there are steps and uneven ground at monasteries and camps
- you want hotel-style comfort every night; camps and homestays are basic
- long road days (up to 9 hours) and cold nights are hard for you
Essential Packing List
Show the full packing list
- A sturdy 40–50 litre backpack and a small daypack
- Sports shoes with good ankle support and 3–4 pairs of socks
- A heavy down jacket, thermal layers, cargo pants, full-sleeve shirts, a woollen cap and gloves
- A small medical kit with your medicines, band-aids, a sprain spray and tablets for fever, nausea and headache
- Aadhaar card, passport or another government photo ID
- Phone charger, power bank, quick-dry towel, sunglasses, snacks, energy bars, lip balm, cold cream and sanitiser
Why ₹19,999 and Not ₹14,000?
Cheaper Spiti trips usually run Manali to Kaza and back the same way. This one is the full circuit:
- In through Kinnaur (Chitkul, Kalpa, Nako) and out via Chandratal and the Atal Tunnel, so you see both sides of Spiti and acclimatise slowly
- Volvo from Delhi or Chandigarh and back included, not just travel from Manali
- Two camp nights (Chitkul and Chandratal) and four nights in hotels or homestays
- A trip captain with the group (Jagdish or Pankaj), an oxygen cylinder, a pulse oximeter and a first-aid kit
- A registered company (CIN U63040DL2020PTC367271) with GST invoices and refund rules in writing
Spiti Valley Tour Package FAQs
On the ground it is 7 days and 6 nights; door to door from Delhi it is 8 calendar days. You leave Delhi on Saturday night by Volvo (Chandigarh pickup about 1:30 AM), travel the circuit through Kinnaur, Spiti and Lahaul, and take the Volvo back from Manali on Day 7, reaching Delhi on Sunday morning.
The total is ₹20,999 per person on triple sharing (₹19,999 + 5% GST) and ₹23,099 on double sharing (₹21,999 + GST); from Chandigarh it is ₹500 less before GST. On the trip you also pay about ₹400 for the local 4x4 to Chandratal, your lunches and snacks, and breakfast at Narkanda on Day 1.
Every Saturday night from 19 June to 18 September 2027, 14 departures in all. The circuit leaves Spiti over Kunzum Pass and via Chandratal to Manali, which are open only from about mid-June to the end of September, so there are no batches outside that window.
Each batch has up to 17 travellers aged 21–45 in one Tempo Traveller, led by our trip captain Jagdish or Pankaj. Smaller groups travel in an SUV. Families with children or travellers outside this age range can book a private trip.
Rooms and tents are on triple sharing, or double if you upgrade. Solo travellers share only with travellers of the same gender.
Both are Swiss-tent camps with beds and warm bedding. Chitkul camps usually have attached washrooms. At Chandratal the camps are basic, with shared or dry toilets and solar power only for a few hours in the evening, and nights are close to freezing even in summer.
Yes. The fixed-date group tour suits solo travellers well: you share the Volvo, Tempo Traveller and rooms with other travellers, keep the cost down and travel with our trip captain throughout.
Yes. You travel in a fixed group with our trip captain and an experienced local driver for the whole trip, share rooms only with other women, have planned stays every night and our team on call 24/7.
Our group batches are for ages 21–45, so families travel on a private Spiti trip with their own vehicle and dates. Spiti suits families who can handle long road days, cold nights and altitudes above 4,000 m; anyone with heart or lung problems should check with a doctor first.
There is no trekking, only short walks at monasteries, villages and Chandratal. The hard part is the road: Day 1 (Shimla to Chitkul) is 8–9 hours, Day 3 (Kalpa to Tabo) 6–7 hours, and Day 7 includes the rough Batal–Gramphu stretch before Manali.
In Delhi, the Volvo leaves Kashmiri Gate at 8:00 PM and Majnu Ka Tila at 8:30 PM on Saturday; Chandigarh travellers are picked up on the way at about 1:30 AM. The return Volvo leaves Manali at 8:00 PM on Day 7 and reaches Chandigarh and Delhi the next morning.
If snow or a landslide closes Kunzum Pass or the Chandratal road on your dates, we return the way we came, via Kinnaur and Shimla. The Chandratal camp night is replaced with a hotel night on the way back and you take the Volvo from Shimla instead of Manali. Extra costs caused by road closures are not included.
It is possible, as the trip goes above 4,000 m on Days 5 and 6 and the last night is at about 4,300 m at Chandratal. The route climbs slowly through Kinnaur, which helps. Watch for headache, nausea, dizziness or breathlessness at rest and tell the trip captain at once; the standard response is rest, fluids, oxygen from the cylinder we carry and, if symptoms do not improve, going down to a lower altitude.
Yes. Foreign nationals need a Protected Area Permit (often called an Inner Line Permit) for the Kinnaur–Spiti border stretch. Indian citizens need no permit for this route.
Yes. We arrange private Spiti trips for families and couples by Innova, Ertiga or Tempo Traveller on dates you choose, with the full circuit possible from mid-June to September. WhatsApp 9311052232 with your dates and group size for a quote.
